Extending Goals Beyond the Workplace

With the sound of ornaments being packed away, trees tugged through the door, and the final baked goods munched, the Holiday Season comes to a close. For many, this sparks a new season of reflection and goal setting as the phrase “New year, new me” is tossed around. Kipsu focuses deeply on goals during work hours and is filled with many motivated, intentional individuals. This ignited my curiosity on what resolutions Kipsuvians set outside of work for 2019, and what “new self” people here are striving towards.

Each quarter, Kipsu sets many goals, ranging from company-wide, to team, to individual. Every Monday, Kipsuvians gather for an All-Hands meeting where we walk through each teams' quarterly goals and provide updates on its progression. Teams meet weekly, continuously discussing strategies on how to meet these aspirations and pivot if necessary. Manager and team members also talk through quarterly personal goals, utilizing check-ins during their reoccurring one-on-one meetings. Needless to say, goals are always top of mind for Kipsuvians.

Kipsu’s culture truly encourages a high degree of continuous learning and development, which is present both during and outside work hours. Every day, I am inspired by my fellow team members through their knowledge, uncanny wit, problem-solving abilities, authenticity, empathy and so much more. Therefore, I figured such a thoughtful group of people must have some great New Year ambitions. I was not wrong! Here are a few of the personal goals Kipsuvians determined for 2019:

Eva Dixon - Director of Marketing

"My goal this year is read/listen to/speak french at least once a week for the rest of the year. I majored in French in college and was once a lot closer to fluency than I am now. Having studied it for most of my life, I really miss that being a part of my day-to-day."

Sam Panzer - Business Development Team

"I want to toast and grind my own spices."

Jaime Hasama - Customer Partnership Team

"I want to do more scary things, work on my daily yoga and meditation practice, read 12 books, go to 6 concerts, set up regular weekly volunteering, active listen, and let go of regrets/hard feelings, and FORGIVE."

Paul DeSalvo - Customer Success Team

"I want to read more this year, including 6 books that Kipsu has recommended the Customer Success Team to read such as: Simon Sinek's 'Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don't' and Nick Mehta's 'Customer Success: How Innovative Companies Are Reducing Churn and Growing Recurring Revenue.'"

Ayoub Belemlih - Engineering Team

"I want to go to graduate school and pursue an advanced degree in machine learning/Artificial Intelligence (I still do not know the specific topic), and this year I am planning on taking some of the required standardized exams, and working on some personal projects to explore more topics in machine learning."

Meghan Harmening - Finance Team

"I want to rock climb a 5.11- in one try by the end of 2019"

These are just a few of the inspiring and thoughtful personal new year goals happening around Kipsu. If you have any New Year resolutions that you would like to share, feel free to comment below! Goals are a large part of our everyday language at Kipsu, and I’m excited to learn and grow from those around me as they develop and meet their 2019 ambitions.
