What were you up to before joining Kipsu?

Before Kipsu I was working as a contractor with the Department of Education. I was managing a team of 10 who would assist consumers with what their options are before a garnishment took place.

What are something you enjoy doing outside of work?

When I am not working I enjoy spending time with my 2 children whether it be going to the park watching them enjoy the simple pleasures of life, taking a long walk or just laying in the grass and watching the clouds pass trying to decide what they resemble. I also enjoy traveling. Some of my all time favorite places include South Beach, Vegas or Hawaii and I often find myself looking at different things to do the next time I visit.

What drew you to Kipsu in contrast to other companies?

The things that drew me into Kipsu was the culture and learning environment. I came from a bootcamp so the fact that I get to continue to my education with Kipsu is just amazing. I saw this opportunity as a way to contribute to an exciting, fast-moving company in the hospitality industry, and I feel I can do so with not only my vast knowledge of the hospitality industry but my coding knowledge as well.

What were some things you noticed about the Kipsu team during your first week?

Everyone was very kind. I think I met with almost every single person who was working in the office at that time because they came and introduced themselves to me. Everyone knew my name before I got there and overall it was just a welcoming environment.

What challenges are you looking forward to tackling in your work at Kipsu?

Some of the challenges I look forward to tackling would be to get better with coding. Specifically getting more in depth understanding of React and being able to apply that to my day to day duties.

What is your favorite Kipsu core value and why?

My favorite Kipsu core value is Go Beyond Together. This is my favorite because getting to work with people with such diverse backgrounds exposes me to cultures and practices I might not have otherwise come in contact with. We all bring something of value to the table. So getting to know my peers on a personal level creates a sense of goodwill in the workplace that translates to better professional collaboration.

If you could pick any person for a chat over a shared dinner, who would you pick and why?

Warren Buffet? I am extremely interested in investing. The way he chooses to make money  by standing for principles he firmly believes in and the kind of wisdom he has spread around about investing all while doing it ethically really intrigues me!
