What were you up to before joining Kipsu?

Independent contracting for small business founders. I spent a year and a half between full-time roles building complete applications for three clients.

What are some things you enjoy doing outside of work?

I love doing crosswords and playing roleplaying games, when I get the time. Usually I'm playing with my two small rambunctious children!

What drew you to Kipsu in contrast to other companies?

Definitely the culture. Everyone I interfaced with through the hiring process had been thoroughly genuine, kind, fun people. This continues to be true in my day-to-day here.

What were some things you noticed about the Kipsu team during your first week?

There are a lot of younger folks here. Kipsu does not shy away from hiring inexperienced individuals, juniors, etc. One of my favorite things to do in this field is to mentor others, so it's been a great opportunity to do a lot of that!

What challenges are you looking forward to tackling in your work at Kipsu?

Tech debt. After a decade of organic startup growth, there's a lot of room for improvement in our core system. I hope to address as much of this as I can and overall improve the developer experience going forward.

What is your favorite Kipsu core value and why?

Think customer first. Too often companies are hyper-focused on making returns for investors and building a quality product goes on the back burner.

If you could pick any person for a chat over a shared dinner, who would you pick and why?

Alan Watts. I find his musings extremely insightful, I imagine I could talk to him endlessly.
