What were you up to before joining Kipsu?

Before joining Kipsu, I was a materials scientist and chemist.  I did research and development on a wide variety of materials and products - ranging from engines to biopolymers.

What are some things you enjoy doing outside of work?

Outside of work, I enjoy bouldering, camping, kayaking, biking, and puzzle/strategy games.  Canoeing and portaging through the BWCA is my favorite getaway.

What drew you to Kipsu in contrast to other companies?

Both the mission and the culture drew me to Kipsu.  Technology has allowed us to eliminate many processes that once required face-to-face contact.  Kipsu reinserts the personal interactions we crave without compromising the efficiency and efficacy of a business model.
I also really enjoyed being able to talk to multiple people across multiple teams.  I felt like I was able to get a great understanding of the culture and how I would fit in.

What were some things you noticed about the Kipsu team during your first week?

I noticed that there is a huge focus on sharing knowledge.  People have their specialities, but they're more than happy to set aside time to share what they know and collaborate on challenges.

What challenges are you looking forward to tackling in your work at Kipsu?

Coming in on the CSTR path to Engineering, I'm interested in seeing the issues our customers are focused on and how I can improve their experience.  I enjoy improving product efficiency and usability, so interacting with both the internal team and the external customer-partners is a really interesting place to be.

What is your favorite Kipsu core value and why?

My favorite core value is "Go Beyond Together".  We spend so much of our time working toward the same goals and facing the same problems.  Actively maintaining a strong team mindset can make all the difference.  Going Beyond Together simplifies the problems and amplifies the successes.

If you could pick any person for a chat over a shared dinner, who would you pick and why?

The Dalai Lama (sorry Elon, you were a close second).  There is a world of insight, culture, and wisdom to be had from that conversation.
