Kipsu, the leading platform of Real-Time Engagement for service industry professionals and Minneapolis-based startup, participated in the 2019 Twin Cities Startup Week. Kipsu's event, Going 7—70: Life on the inside of a fast growing startup, featured a panel of "O.G." Kipsuvians who spoke about life in a company that scaled quickly. At the TCSW closing party, Kipsu received the Voyager Award, which recognizes a startup that successfully bootstrapped their organization.
Brands like Lyft, Airbnb, and Snapchat may get the lion's share of media attention in the startup space for their breakneck growth on the back of billions of dollars of fundraising, but these "unicorns" are far from the reality of most startups.
Every spring, Kipsu welcomes a new class of Analysts to our Entrepreneurial Leadership Rotation Program (ELRP). Analysts spend 12 months rotating between Kipsu's 3 core teams learning all aspects of our business. At the end of the program, Analysts are placed on a team permanently. The 2019 ELRP class just completed their first rotation, and we spoke with Emily Cox about her experience on the Customer Partnerships Team.
We had our first annual Kipsu picnic, a Kipsnic! It was an evening filled with yard games, grilling, and great conversation. The ice cream bicycle was a great hit as many people took it out for a ride. We couldn't have been happier with the amazing weather, location, and most of all, being surrounded by fellow Kipsuvians!
Happy Father's Day from Kipsu to you! We wanted to celebrate this special day by highlighting one of our amazing Kipsu fathers, Alex Buddington. Alex has been at Kipsu for about a year and a half now, and is part of our on-boarding and training leaders at Kipsu. He has two children, Owen and Olive. Alex recently welcomed baby Olive to the family and is excited to be a father of two and for Owen to be a big brother! Alex loves being active with his kids and enjoys going to parks, farmer's markets, and just being outside as much as possible. We asked Alex to answer a few questions about what it is like being a father while also working at Kipsu.
Our first Kipsu Entrepreneurial Leadership Rotation Program (ELRP) officially came to an end a few short weeks ago, and we couldn't be happier with the result! Kipsu kicked off its first Rotation Program last June with three ambitions individuals: Cara Christensen, Rachel Hain, and Connor Valenti, who thoroughly embraced the unique opportunity of the program. ELRP is a one year program where a rotation analyst rotates through the three largest teams at Kipsu: Engineering, Customer Partnerships, and Customer Success—then is placed on one of the teams at the end of the year.
“The customer is always right.”
Anyone who has seen the Broadway hit, “Rent,” has contemplated the question of “How do you measure a year?” It may be in daylights, or sunsets, midnights, or cups of coffee. For Kipsu’s recent Entrepreneurship Leadership Rotational Program (ELRP) graduates, they’d probably say something along the lines of measuring a year in rotations - three to be exact - on different teams at Kipsu...Oh...and cups of coffee.
Kipsu is moving to a new home! Two homes to be exact. We moved from the fourth floor to the sixth and seventh floors. From around 3 people to over 70; it’s been an amazing journey.

With the sound of ornaments being packed away, trees tugged through the door, and the final baked goods munched, the Holiday Season comes to a close. For many, this sparks a new season of reflection and goal setting as the phrase “New year, new me” is tossed around. Kipsu focuses deeply on goals during work hours and is filled with many motivated, intentional individuals. This ignited my curiosity on what resolutions Kipsuvians set outside of work for 2019, and what “new self” people here are striving towards.

Many students see their college graduation as an opportunity to retire their classroom learning, find a job that pays the bills, and settle into “Adulting.” Cara Christiansen celebrated her graduation from Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota in 2017, but she was far from ready to settle in. Her story was only beginning. She was curious and hungry for more knowledge.

The United States has designated today, January 21st, as a day to remember, honor, and reflect on the courageous and historic strides made by Dr. Martin Luther King Junior and the American Civil Rights movement. Although the changes in American law, workplaces, and society since Dr. King’s time have bent towards equality, there still exists great achievements to be made.

Last year, Maddy Dunn, a member of our Customer Partnership team, started a Kipsu Kickball team: Kicksu. Kicksu has been a great way for new or old Kipsuvians to get to know their coworkers outside of work. The Kicksu team has had some great wins and always smiles, even when they lose (mostly because of the happy hour after). We interviewed Coach Maddy Dunn and Assistant Coach Ty Jesinoski on topics from what they love most about Kipsu to how to run a successful kickball team. We also interviewed Kicksu team members on what their favorite part of Kicksu is.
As I look back on my career, I am now surprised at how little financial information was shared about the performance of the companies that I worked at before starting Kipsu. I was rarely privy to the revenues of the business and I never knew what the P&L —the balance of the expenses related to the business — looked like.
